Imagine this story on the news tonight: “There is a grotesque, flesh eating virus that has escaped from a laboratory and by tomorrow morning it will will have spread to the air outside your house. It kills everyone it touches, except for those people who wear a blue shirt. Please, for your own safety, wear a blue shirt tomorrow.” Ridiculous, I know, but what if…? What would it take for you to wear a blue shirt? A credible source? A scientist or two? A few witnesses? Would you simply not care? Would Wal Mart be sold out of blue shirts by morning? If you thought the story was a joke, how confident would you be when you opened your door the next morning in your bright yellow shirt?
I know, this whole scenario is stupid, and it would never really happen. Let’s change it a little bit and see how we feel…
God is real. Everything the Bible says is 100% true. There are 2,000 years worth of credible sources, scholars, scientists and millions of witnesses all agreeing and testifying to it’s validity. The Bible says that everyone has sinned and deserves death, but there is one way to get right with God… a relationship with Jesus christ. What will you do about it? What will it take for you to take the warning seriously? How confident are you to open that door, clothed in your own pride/arrogance/intellect/rebellion?
Is it possible?
Is there even the tiniest bit of a chance that it’s true?
You want to deny it, you want to make it into a joke or a cliche or get a few other scientists to say it’s okay, it’s just a story… but is it really worth the risk? Is your eternal life really so worthless that you would throw it down as a bet that you’re right?
“I don’t know” isn’t an option for you any more.
You have to make a choice.
What color shirt are you going to pull over your head?
