I heard a rumor that a certain person I know got caught smoking weed. It doesn’t really matter if he actually did or not, the words have been spoken so some people are going to believe it, and nothing will ever convince them otherwise.
A pastor friend of mine cheated on his taxes and stole money from his church. What actually happened was a mix up between his debit card and the churches (from the same bank, so the cards were identical), it was just a mistake and it was all sorted out, but as far as some people in the church were concerned, he’s a liar and a thief and they wanted him fired.
I knew another guy who got kicked out of his Bible college because he and his girlfriend were going to visit her parents several states away and their car broke down on the way and they had to spend the weekend in a hotel while the car was in the shop, before having to turn around and head back to school. She took the bed, he took the sofa, the school didn’t care and they were both expelled.
Point: Satan loves to whisper. The Bible says we are to live “above reproach”, but that’s a complete impossibility in our society where rumor is gospel. People are going to believe whatever they want to believe, even if they made it up themselves. Truth takes a backseat to drama and thats the way we seem to like it.
Think twice about what you repeat or accusations you make. It doesn’t really matter who told you what, when it comes to talking about others, there isn’t much you can say that actually needs to be said. Satan loves to whisper in our ears and tell us stories we want to believe, he also like to get us to do the whispering for him.
Think twice about what you say, but also about what you really believe.
