I’ve been thinking more about John the Baptist, from my last post, and there was another picture that has stayed in my head..
John’s purpose was to prepare the way for the Light, for the One who would come after him… He came just as prophecy had said, as a voice crying out in the wilderness, preaching repentance. His entire life purpose was to get people ready for Jesus.
John had become quite a bit of a celebrity, he could have just kept going as a novelty preacher and sold t shirts or something, but he had no problem giving up all of his fame and followers at the drop of a hat. One day he saw Jesus and lost control of himself, and shouted “BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD!”
John had prepared the way for Jesus, and even pointed him out in person. John’s followers followed Jesus. He had pointed the way.
Not long after this John was beheaded as a present for the wife of King Herod.
I guess what has truck me is that we cannot be afraid of the end. We cannot be afraid to succeed, even if success means it’s all over.
Do what you need to do.
Watch this video, try not to cry, and consider this… do what you need to do, no matter what success brings.
